Q: How can I recognize if I have Alopecia Areata or other hair loss problem?
A: Patchy alopecia areata is the sudden appearance of one or more small areas of hair loss on the scalp in a round shape, about the size of a coin, and the area of alopecia becomes smooth, but there is no sign of redness or scarring. Each time the hair is pulled, a large number of hair strands fall out, and the hair gradually turns gray, with the pigmented hair falling out first. The hair that grows back is usually shorter than normal.
